Department Introduction
Biobank
The hospital set up a human biobank pursuant to the Human Biobank Management Act decreed by the president and founded a Human Biobank Ethics Committee responsible for the review and supervision of the establishment, management, and application of the human biobank.
Affiliated to the Department of Medical Research, the hospital’s human biobank is directly under the jurisdiction of the superintendent and the vice superintendent, where Shih-peng Yeh served as the director of biomedicine and Han-mih Chen as the director of information. And on October 25, 2012, the Department of Health approved the legal preservation of specimens for study.
The human biobank space is divided into the specimen processing room, the specimen storage room, and the information entities isolation area, all of which are equipped with a swipe card access control system, surveillance equipment, an environmental temperature and humidity detector, uninterrupted power system electrical facilities, and a freezer central monitoring system. The properly prepared biobank workplace can not only continuously and strictly carry out future control and monitoring, but also prevent the specimens for study from being contaminated and lost and ensure the safety of staff, in an attempt to improve the quality of biological specimens and safeguard participants’ personal privacy.
The biobank set up a quality management system, including four-stage documentation—QM, QP, SOP, and Record, as a guideline on the execution of the operating process, so as to ensure the supply of high-quality biological specimens for study to the hospital and boost the hospital’s research level.
