Our center is dedicated to comprehensive cardiovascular disease treatment, minimally invasive interventional techniques, and preventive medicine. Kuan-Cheng Chang

Director-General

Currently, Dr. Kuan-Cheng Chang is serving as the Director of Cardiovascular Medicine and a Professor of Medicine at the esteemed China Medical University Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan. Throughout his illustrious career, he has successfully performed over 2,500 interventional procedures aimed at treating an array of conditions, from various arrhythmias to heart failure. These procedures have not only solidified his standing in the field but also contributed to improved patient outcomes. Moreover, Dr. Chang is a prolific contributor to the scientific community. He has published more than 150 scientific research papers, the majority of which are housed in high-ranking journals. These include PNAS, JACC imaging, Heart, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Canadian Journal of Cardiology, International Journal of Cardiology, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Journal of American Heart association, Scientific Reports, Aging Cell, and Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. In recent times, Dr. Chang has devoted himself to the treatment of complex arrhythmias using an innovative technique known as high-density 3D mapping. His aim with this technique is to offer state-of-the-art management for patients with arrhythmias, advancing the standard of care in this critical area of medicine.

Hsiang-Tai Chou

Dr. Zhou Xiangtai is a medical doctor from Japan's National Kobe University. He used to be a physician of cardiology of Taipei Veterans General Hospital and a fellow of cardiology of the University of California, San Francisco. Awarded the American College of Cardiology. Chow's specialty is in medical treatment of cardiovascular disease, especially hypertension and heart failure, as well as various cardiac imaging diagnostics such as echocardiography and 640-cut computed tomography coronary angiography. Dr. Zhou's research focuses on Cardiac Ultrasound, Cardiology, Molecular Cardiology and Cardiomyopathies.

Shih-Sheng Chang

Director,Cardiovascular Department and AI Center

Dr. Shih-Sheng Chang is a senior intervention cardiologist specializing in complex coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndrome. He serves as the Director of Interventional Cardiology and actively contributes to Taiwan‘s cardiology field as a board member of the Taiwan Society of Cardiology and director at the Myocardial Infarction Society. From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Chang furthered his expertise in AI applications in cardiology at NIH and Mayo Clinic, focusing on computer vision techniques to support diagnostic cardiology. Now leading the AI Center at China Medical University Hospital, he collaborates with physicians to develop patient-centered smart healthcare solutions. Recently, Dr. Chang was invited to present at the HIMSS Asia-Pacific Conference, sharing insights from his team’s innovations in smart healthcare.

Ping-Han Lo

Dr. Ping-Han Lo specializes in different types of transcatheter interventions including coronary artery stent implantation, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusion (CTO), carotid artery stenting (CAS), percutaneous balloon dilatation of rheumatic mitral stenosis, catheter-assisted surgery for aortic stenosis (transcatheter aortic valve placement included), catheter ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect in congenital heart disease, LAAC for stroke prevention in AF, PTA in uremic patients on hemodialysis and peripheral vascular stent insertion (renal artery, subclavian artery, iliac artery, femoral artery and vertebral artery)

Pei-Ying Pai

Director

Dr. Pei-Ying Pai was a researcher in the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Dr. Pei-Ying Pai has been serving in China Medical University Hospital since 1989 and was the director of the division of cardiology and the director of the division of general internal medicine. In addition to rich experience, Dr. Pei-Ying Pai is kind and patient, and treat patients as family. Dr. Pei-Ying Pai specializes not only in the diagnoses and treatments of hypertension, heart failure and coronary artery disease (CAD), but also the implementation of heart ultrasound. He has completed more than 10,000 cases of ultrasound examination in recent years.

Ke-Wei Chen

Attending Physician

Dr Ke-Wei Chen was selected as a teaching physician in this hospital and specializes in cardiac catheterization for a variety of cardiovascular diseases, particularly coronary artery disease and acute myocardial infarction. From 2017 to Japan's famous cardiovascular center Kokura Memorial Hospital to study, including endovascular ultrasound (IVUS), optical coherence tomography (OCT) and other cardiac catheterization and complex coronary intervention. Intravascular imaging such as IVUS or OCT with angiography can provide more accurate diagnosis of coronary artery disease, understand atherosclerotic plaque characteristics and guide stent selection and placement to reduce complications. In patients with chronic kidney disease, IVUS-guided PCI reduces the amount of developer needed to protect renal function. Dr. Chen is also good at general cardiac ultrasound, interventional esophageal ultrasound and pressure ultrasound to diagnose a variety of heart valve diseases and ischemic heart disease. He is currently involved in various cardiovascular interventions including peripheral vascular therapy, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, left atrial appendage plug placement, and pulmonary embolism catheter thrombolysis.

Dr. Chung-Ho Hsu specializes in various cardiovascular diseases, especially cardiac catheterization. Transcatheter cardiopulmonary interventional treatment include: 1) coronary balloon dilatation and stent placement, 2) carotid and peripheral vascular treatment, and 3) arrhythmia, radiofrequency electrical cautery and so on. The development of cardiac catheterization has led to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine and created many alternatives to surgery to reduce the suffering of patients with cardiovascular diseases and prolong the life of patients more effectively

Hung-Pin Wu

Dr. Hung-Pin Wu specializes in the treatment of arrhythmia and the diagnosis utilizing cardiac imaging. He implements radiofrequency catheter ablation with 3D mapping system to treat tachycardia in patients with arrhythmia. Dr. Wu has rich experiences in cardiac device implantation including cardiac pacemaker, automatic defibrillator and dual chamber pacemaker. Dr. Wu is also expert in the echocardiography: in addition to the diagnosis of heart disease, he utilizes the stress echocardiography to diagnose coronary artery disease and severe valvular heart disease.

Hsin-Yueh Liang

Director

Dr. Hsin-Yueh Liang had received 4-year echocardiography training in Mayo clinic and Johns Hopkins University in the United States and became a professional member in American Heart Association. Afterwards, she proactively promoted advanced echocardiography and was invited to deliver presentations on annual medical conferences. She performs about 2500 chest ultrasound examinations, 350 stress echocardiographies and 250 transesophageal echocardiographies every year. Since 2013, she has devoted herself to treating patients, utilizing the interventional transesophageal echocardiography, with other physicians specializing in cardiac catheterization. In 2017, she introduced the techniques of contrast-enhanced ultrasound to help CMUH link up with international standards in the echocardiography.

Huang-Joe Wang

Dr. Huang-Joe Wang was graduated from the School of Medicine, China Medical University (1988-1995). After finishing his military service, Dr. Huang-Joe Wang received resident physician training in internal medicine and fellow training in cardiology in National University Hospital (1997-2002). After the training, he came back and has been serving in China Medical University Hospital (2002-now). Additionally, he pursued further study in Institute of Biotechnology, National Tsing Hua University and earned his doctoral degree (2005-2010). He clinically specializes in PCI for CAD, and the diagnoses and treatment of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, valvular heart disease and heart failure (HF). In addition to his rich experiences, Dr. Wang treats patients as family and devotes himself to the research and the teaching. In terms of the teaching, he took up the position of an associate professor in the School of Medicine, China Medical University (2012-now) and has been promoting a variety of clinical teaching methods. In the terms of research, he has been proactively conducting intensive researches in vascular biology and diabetic vasculopathy, and he was qualified and sponsored by the elite program to pursue further study in the laboratory of Emory university in the United States (Dr. Hanjoong Jo, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Division of Cardiology, Emory university). Dr. Huang-Joe Wang has won the poster competition held by Taiwan Society of Internal Medicine and Taiwan Society of Cardiology many times. He has published more than 30 papers on international academic journals. Dr. Huang-Joe Wang integrates basic and clinical researches to provide patients excellent treatment.

Afterwards, she, cooperating with the laboratory of Mayo clinic, continues her study in heart valves by 3D transthoracic echocardiography and 3D transesophageal echocardiography. Dr. Chen has rich experiences and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as CAD, HF, arrhythmia, valvular heart disease, pulmonary hypertension (PH), metabolic syndrome, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus (DM). Dr. Chen is also expert in the care of the critical illness patients and becomes a teacher in Taiwan Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Hung-Chi Ho graduated from National Taiwan University School of Medicine, completed his residency training at National Taiwan University Hospital, and served in our hospital. His clinical expertise includes: Hypertensive heart disease, heart failure diagnosis and treatment, and cardiac ultrasound applications. In the research area, Dr. He obtained a Ph.D. in mathematics from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, focusing on the innovation and development of mathematical statistics theory. Shi-Sheng Tsou

Dr. Shi-Sheng Tsou has served in our hospital over twenty years since graduating. He has taken the position of the director of inpatient ward since the establishment of the division of general internal medicine in 2006 and built a better communication way between physicians and nurses. He is an exceptional physician of attentiveness and patience. Dr. Shi-Sheng Tsou is good at physical examination and logical thinking, and especially specializes in heart ultrasound, heart failure, hypertension and integrated medical services. He is a role model for other medical personnel since that he not only exerts his professional skills but also manages his own family well and actively engages in leisure activities such as mountain climbing and swimming.

Jin-Jer Chen

Professor Jin-Jer Chen is a cardiovascular disease expert who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of general medical diseases, cardiovascular diseases, arrhythmia and hypertension, as well as cardiac ultrasound and cardiac catheterization. He was previously a professor of internal medicine at National Taiwan University Hospital, a researcher at the Institute of Biomedicine, Academia Sinica, a consultant cardiologist at the King's Hospital of Jeddah and King of Saudi Arabia in Saudi Arabia and a visiting professor of cardiology at the University of Toronto, Canada. Dr. Chen has conducted in-depth studies on molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and molecular biology including cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, arteriosclerosis and hypertension and published over 150 articles in internationally renowned journals.

Yu-Chin Lin

Dr. Yu-Chin Lin specializes in a variety of cardiovascular diseases, especially hypertension, coronary heart disease, and cardiac arrhythmia. Dr. Lin has an in-depth study of cardiac electrophysiology (heart rhythm). Dr. Lin specializes in acute care and treatment of heart disease. Dr. Lin has been instrumental in the treatment of arrhythmia, including the use of cardiac catheterization with high-frequency cauterization, combined with 3D stereotactic positioning, and systematic treatment of ventricular fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and ventricular superior frequency. It is renowned for its implanted cardiac electronic devices that include the use of cardiac pacemakers for treatment of bradycardia, automatic defibrillator therapy of ventricular fibrillation, prevention of sudden death, and biventricular synchronized regulators for the treatment of heart failure. Dr. Yeh-Pang Chen is good at various cardiovascular diseases, especially coronary heart disease diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Chan also has extensive experience in cardiac catheterization. Transcatheter cardiopulmonary interventional therapy include: 1) coronary balloon dilation and stent placement, 2) carotid artery and peripheral vascular treatment. Dr. Yu-Chen Wang is the Deputy Secretary-General of Taiwan's Interventional Cardiovascular Medical Association. Dr. Wang received a complete internal medicine and cardiology training at National Taiwan University Hospital. After completing her cardiology training in 2008, she joined the cardiovascular team in our hospital. Dr. Wang is currently a doctorate student at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, and from 2011 to 2012 he went to the Texas Heart Medical Center in the United States to study basic blood lipid and cell biology. Dr. Wang specializes in a wide range of heart diseases, including acute and chronic treatment of coronary artery disease and heart failure, including drug and cardiac catheterization. In addition, Dr. Wang also has a considerable degree of research on preventive medicine in heart disease, including prevention and treatment of hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia. It is hoped that through the complete prevention and treatment, it will effectively enhance the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases so as to reduce the suffering of patients and prolong the life of patients.
