Seventh International Charity Medicine Case: Cambodian Child with Neuroblastoma Undergoes Life-Saving Immunotherapy

Corporate Donations Give Back to the Global Community, Promoting ESG and Sustainable Development

The power of love through international medical care continues to spread! Since 2016, International Center of China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) has partnered with corporations and community organizations to launch the "One International Charity Medical Project Per Year." This year, with contributions from HIWIN Technologies and Golden Brics Development, the hospital treated its seventh case: Mok, a 5-year-old Cambodian boy with severe neuroblastoma, who underwent GD2 antibody immunotherapy in a bid to save his life. HIWIN Technologies representatives visited the hospital to support Mok and his medical team, with Mok’s mother expressing her gratitude, saying, "Thank you, angels who saved my child! We will keep fighting!"

CMUH has initiated its seventh international charity medical case, with a combined donation of NT$1.3 million from HIWIN Technologies and Golden Brics Development. This funding helped 5-year-old Mok from Cambodia, who suffers from severe neuroblastoma, receive GD2 antibody immunotherapy, offering him a chance at survival.

HIWIN Continues Overseas Medical Aid, Kindness in Motion

Upon Mok’s admission, he received an outpouring of well-wishes, filling his and his mother’s hearts with warmth. Yueh-Chin Wu, Senior Vice President of HIWIN Technologies, presented Mok with a HIWIN Ambassador doll, encouraging him to remain hopeful and optimistic, just as the doll’s green color symbolizes vitality. Wu emphasized that the best care will be provided by the Pediatric Hematology team at the Children’s Hospital of China Medical University. Wu stated, "HIWIN Technologies, a global leader in motion control and system technology, is also a responsible global citizen. We actively promote ESG and incorporate it into our corporate governance. Driven by our commitment to enhancing human well-being, we have long invested in the healthcare sector. This international charity medical project not only reflects HIWIN’s social responsibility but also embodies the profound essence of saving lives through medical intervention."

Clinical Evidence Shows Significant Efficacy of GD2 Antibody Immunotherapy; Pediatric Hematology Team Puts in Full Effort

Neuroblastoma primarily affects young children, with about 20 cases diagnosed annually in Taiwan. China Medical University Children's Hospital treats approximately five cases each year. Dr. Chih-Yao Wang, Director of the Children's Hospital, stated, "We hope more companies will join us in providing the resources and care needed to give children with rare and severe diseases a chance at life." Dr. Min-Yu Su from the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Department noted, "Mok suffers from a severe form of neuroblastoma. Large-scale international clinical trials have confirmed that GD2 antibody immunotherapy is significantly effective for high-risk pediatric neuroblastoma patients. Under certain conditions, this treatment was included in Taiwan's National Health Insurance last year, benefiting many Taiwanese children. We assessed that this is currently Mok’s best treatment option. If he responds well to the initial GD2 antibody immunotherapy, this treatment could be his lifeline. Thanks to the corporate sponsorship facilitated by the International Medical Center, Mok now has a ray of hope."

Following Vietnam, Myanmar, China, and Guam, the Seventh International Charity Medical Case Expands to Cambodia

Dr. Der-Yang Cho, Superintendent of CMUH, stated, "Since 2016, we have expanded our international charity medical project to new countries, including Vietnam, Myanmar, China, Guam, and now Cambodia, to convey the message that medical care knows no borders." Mok, the child patient, arrived in Taiwan this April seeking treatment after his condition rapidly worsened. At one point, he fell into a coma due to a brain tumor. After undergoing two phases of emergency chemotherapy and radiation therapy under the care of Dr. Min-Yu Su and the Pediatric Hematology team, Mok’s condition improved. However, as he was about to enter the third phase of GD2 antibody immunotherapy, his family could no longer afford the high medical costs. Just as they were on the verge of abandoning treatment, HIWIN Technologies donated NT$1 million, and Golden Brics Development donated NT$300,000, giving Mok the chance to receive his first GD2 antibody immunotherapy treatment.
