For the past decade, China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) has cultivated a deep and enduring partnership with the people of Guam. Through advanced medical technologies and its signature “one-stop” international patient services delivered with warmth and compassion, CMUH has supported more than 1,300 patient visits from Guam, fostering strong cross-border physician–patient trust and long-term healthcare collaboration.
To sustain this commitment and further expand patient care, CMUH’s International Medical Center joined forces with director-level specialists from the Departments of Urology and Orthopedics to host the event “A Decade of Trust · Guam Spring Reunion” on February 26 in Guam. The event welcomed numerous former and current patients, along with bipartisan senators and government officials, who gathered to learn about the latest medical advancements and minimally invasive innovations. Attendees widely praised CMUH as a powerful yet compassionate healthcare pillar safeguarding the well-being of Guam’s community.

Strong Cross-Border Friendship and a Powerful Health Backing Recognized by Guam officials
Senator Christopher M. Dueñas praised China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) as the “most trusted medical choice.” Senator Tina Muña Barnes expressed heartfelt appreciation, stating that Guam has been blessed by God to have the CMUH team come and care for its people. “You are messengers sent by God,” she said warmly. “We will extend to you the same gracious hospitality that you have shown us in Taiwan.”
Chia-Ping Liu, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Guam, expressed hope for strengthening Taiwan–Guam medical connections in the future and promoting further substantive cooperation and professional exchanges.
With the resumption of direct flights between Guam and Taiwan in 2025, it has become more convenient for Guam residents to seek medical care at CMUH. The hospital maintains long-term partnerships with Guam-based insurance companies and provides a streamlined “one-stop green channel” service to ensure efficient and seamless medical processes. The International Medical Center team delivers warm, high-quality care, allowing patients to confidently receive advanced treatments with peace of mind.
CMUH Superintendent Der-Yang Cho stated:“Healthcare should have no borders, and health should never be limited by geography. Over the past decade, CMUH has done more than facilitate cross-border referrals—we have established a sustainable international medical collaboration model for Taiwan. When patients from Guam choose Taiwan, they are choosing an institutionalized system of trust and quality assurance. That trust is one of Taiwan’s most valuable healthcare assets.”
Excellence in Precision Medicine Builds a Strong International Reputation for Patient Satisfaction
During the event, two leading specialists shared remarkable clinical achievements.
Dr. Chi-Ping Huang, Director of the Urology Department, has accumulated more than 2,000 cases of da Vinci robotic surgery and performs over 250 procedures annually. He is a recognized leader in radical prostatectomy and renal tumor surgery, delivering excellent outcomes with minimally invasive precision.
Dr. Chih-Hung Hung, Director of the Artificial Joints Department, has completed more than 2,000 knee and hip replacement surgeries. By actively integrating robotic-assisted systems, he has significantly enhanced surgical accuracy, recovery quality, and long-term joint function.
These advanced surgical capabilities have benefited numerous patients from Guam and have consistently achieved exceptionally high levels of patient satisfaction and trust.
Two Guam Governors Visit CMUH in Taiwan, Building a Decade-Long Bridge of Trust
CMUH is the only hospital in Taiwan to have been visited by two Governors of Guam, underscoring a decade-long partnership built on trust and clinical excellence.
In May last year, Guam Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero led a delegation to visit CMUH and tour its Proton Therapy Center. She highly praised the precision of proton therapy in targeting various cancers and commended the International Medical Center for providing Guam patients with both cutting-edge treatment and compassionate support throughout their overseas medical journey.
Earlier, in 2018, former Guam Governor Eddie Calvo also led a delegation to CMUH, expressing admiration for the hospital’s advanced medical technologies and facilities, as well as the professional and high-quality care extended to Guam residents.
Ten Years of Commitment—Healthcare Without Borders
Since 2016, CMUH has devoted nearly a decade to serving the people of Guam, maintaining uninterrupted healthcare collaboration. By the end of 2025, the hospital will have provided medical services to more than 1,300 patient visits from Guam.
Even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, CMUH demonstrated its unwavering commitment through concrete actions, including the donation of 200,000 medical masks, the coordination of humanitarian medical charter flights, and facilitation of the sister-city partnership between Taichung and Guam. These efforts embodied the hospital’s founding belief that healthcare transcends borders.
As CMUH enters its next decade of partnership with Guam, it remains steadfast in upholding the spirit of “Medicine Without Borders,” continuing to deliver the latest medical technologies, highly efficient clinical pathways, and compassionate, patient-centered care—standing as a trusted healthcare partner for the people of Guam.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero of Guam led a delegation to visit the Proton Therapy Center at China Medical University Hospital in May 2025, praising the hospital’s advanced medical technology and exceptional surgical expertise, which have helped safeguard the health of many patients from Guam.
