Department Introduction

The Department of Psychiatry at China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health care, including outpatient services, inpatient care, day treatment programs, and community support, helping patients reintegrate into daily life.

We specialize in the early detection and treatment of psychiatric disorders and have established dedicated teams for addiction treatment and suicide prevention, offering personalized mental health services. Additionally, our department actively engages in clinical research, international collaborations, and medical education, fostering the next generation of mental health professionals.

By integrating medical care, research, and education, we are committed to enhancing the quality of mental health services, providing compassionate support for both patients and their families.

Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit, Day Care Psychiatric Ward

1. Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit : Multidisciplinary team meetings for personalized patient care.
2. Day Care Psychiatric Ward : Providing rehabilitation services, including individualized life skills training, medication adherence training, vocational skills training, social skills development, and family relationship strengthening.

Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Home-Based Treatment

1. Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation : Providing activities such as community resource visits and participation in health bureau performances and competitions.

In 2024, our department joined the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Emergency Psychiatric Consultation Program, providing frontline personnel with real-time professional consultation and assessment.

Chun-Hui Liao

Attending Physician

Dr. Liao has expertise in both psychiatry and internal medicine, with extensive experience in treating general psychiatric disorders. She is also involved in psychotherapy, addiction treatment, and the assessment and management of autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Additionally, she is an active member of the geriatric medical team, providing care for patients with dementia, depression, and anxiety disorders.

Hsien-Yuan Lane

Director-General

Dr. Lane Hsien-Yuan specializes in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and dementia. His team is dedicated to discovering safer natural compounds for the treatment of psychiatric disorders and has received prestigious national and international awards for their work.

Joseph Jror-Serk Cheng

Counselor Rank Attending Physician

Dr. Cheng Jror-Serk specializes in psychiatric rehabilitation, trauma stress, and depression treatment. In 1990, Dr. Cheng went to the University of British Columbia in Canada for clinical training in community psychiatric rehabilitation and became one of the leaders and advocates of the community rehabilitation model in Taiwan. After the 921 earthquake, Dr. Cheng promoted disaster psychological rehabilitation and suicide prevention in Nantou. He has also been invited as an instructor at the International Trauma Study Course at the Japan Psychological Trauma Research Center for many years. During his tenure as President of the Society of Social and Community Psychiatry, Dr. Cheng led more than ten organizations to establish the "Triple Good Alliance" (Good Name, Good Benefits, Good Life), successfully advocating for the renaming of schizophrenia. In May 2014, the Ministry of Health and Welfare agreed to rename it as "schizophrenia spectrum disorder." He also advocated for a "recovery-oriented" mental health rehabilitation system. In recent years, Dr. Cheng has been promoting non-violent communication in families, schools, and medical settings to enhance empathy and improve family, parent-child, teacher-student, and doctor-patient relationships.

Po-Lun Wu

Dr. Wu Po-Lun specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and impulse control disorders. His work includes pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and research on emerging therapies. Dr. Wu is one of the few experts in Taiwan who offers comprehensive evaluation and services for patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and conducts research-based treatments for treatment-resistant OCD. He is also involved in psychiatric consultations, teaching, and training, including providing assessment services for oncology psychology, organ transplantation, rare pediatric diseases, and suicide prevention. Additionally, Dr. Wu offers psychological counseling for patients with psychoneurotic disorders.

Pei-Chen Chang

Attending Physician

Dr. Chang Pei-Chen specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry and nutritional medicine, with a particular focus on omega-3 fatty acids in the treatment of ADHD and depression in children and adolescents. Dr. Chang is currently a visiting scholar at King’s College London and leads several multinational research projects, supported by long-term funding from the National Science Council. Her expertise includes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eating disorders, autism, and depression in children and adolescents. Dr. Chang's clinical and research achievements have been recognized both domestically and internationally.

Yin-To Liao

Director of Community Psychiatry

Specializes in depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, dementia, sleep disorders, and more. Has been dedicated to community psychiatry for many years, focusing on mental assessments of community patients, assisting with medical treatment, and providing home-based care.

Hung Chung-Chieh

Attending Physician

Dr. Chung-Chieh Hung is a specialist in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine at the Department of Psychiatry, China Medical University Hospital, where he holds board certifications in both Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. His expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of general psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and sleep disorders, as well as a specialized focus on the treatment of alcohol and substance use disorders. His work spans areas such as pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, innovative treatments, and research on the genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in addiction to common and emerging substances, such as betel nut. Dr. Hung is also one of the few professionals in Taiwan who holds both a Doctor of Medicine and a Master's degree in Law. He is an expert in cross-disciplinary forensic psychiatry, currently pursuing a doctoral degree in law at National Chung Cheng University. With over ten years of experience, he is highly skilled in providing forensic psychiatric evaluations for complex civil and criminal cases.

Tzung-Wei Shiu

Dr. Hsu Tsung-Wei specializes in child and adolescent mental and psychological health, as well as psychiatric disorders. She studied psychotherapy in the UK for five years, making him one of the few experts in Taiwan with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Her clinical services include outpatient consultations, day hospitalization, and various therapeutic groups, catering to a wide range of age groups from preschool children to adolescents. Her services address issues such as developmental challenges in infants and toddlers, including motor, language, cognitive, or social development problems (e.g., autism), as well as psychological difficulties, learning disabilities, and emotional-behavioral disorders that may arise during adolescence (e.g., ADHD, sleep disorders).

Fang-Huei Huang

Attending Physician

Dr. Huang is a senior physician at our hospital, having previously served as the Director of the Acute Care Unit. Her specialties include Jungian-oriented psychotherapy (counseling), general psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine, women's psychosomatic medicine, psycho-oncology, and community psychiatry. She is currently pursuing further education in the Master’s Program for Analytical Psychology at Shih Chien University.

Wan-Ju Cheng

Attending Physician

Dr. Cheng specializes in the treatment of sleep disorders, occupational stress, smoking, alcohol and drug addiction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and autonomic nervous system dysfunction. She holds certifications as a sleep specialist, addiction specialist, and occupational medicine physician. Having received psychoanalytic psychotherapy training, she offers treatment options for psychoneurotic disorders beyond pharmacotherapy. Her clinical service and scientific research have been outstanding. In 2007, she received the Best Physician Award from Taipei City Hospital, in 2015, she was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Award from National Taiwan University, and in 2018, she was honored with the Excellent Physician Award and Excellent Teaching Award from China Medical University Hospital. She was awarded research grants from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) in collaboration with the Finnish Academy in both 2018 and 2019, and in 2019, she received the Young Researcher Award from the Taiwan Society of Addiction Science.

His contributions have earned him prestigious awards, such as the UK Psychopharmacology Paper Award, the American Psychiatric Research Young Scholar Award, and the Thomson Reuters Science Excellence Research Award, among others.
