Orthopedics Department of China Medical University Hospital was established in 1988 and currently performs 630 surgeries per month. Through the collaboration of multiple elite medical teams, we strive to enhance patients' health by utilizing the most advanced treatment plans, cutting-edge instruments, and equipment.
Department Introduction
The Orthopedics Department, established in 1988, offers services in fracture trauma, spinal surgery, joint reconstruction, sports medicine, hand surgery, pediatric orthopedics, foot and ankle surgery, and bone tumors.
We focus on precision, minimally invasive surgeries, and rapid recovery to improve patient outcomes. Additionally, we collaborate with various specialties, including rehabilitation, pain management, and regenerative medicine, integrating advanced technologies such as precision navigation, 3D printing, AI, and cell therapy to deliver comprehensive, high-quality care.
The department sees about 8,000 outpatient visits and performs 630 surgeries monthly, making it the largest medical and referral center in central Taiwan.

Innovative Research and Development
The Orthopedics Department promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, combining multi-specialty teams to deliver innovative treatments.
1. Computer Assisted Disarticulating Spacer (CADAS)
: With the growing number of joint replacement surgeries, our hospital receives many referrals for joint infections. In collaboration with the Exosome and Multi-dimensional Biomedical Translation Development Center, we have developed the CADAS active spacer, significantly improving patient quality of life and offering cutting-edge treatment.
2. Artificial Intelligence Development
: The Orthopedics Department has made significant breakthroughs in AI development, collaborating with the hospital's Intelligent Center to enhance medical accuracy and reduce labor burdens.
3. Regenerative Medicine Applications
: Leveraging advancements in basic research and regenerative medicine, our hospital combines basic sciences and clinical expertise to offer a comprehensive cell therapy program. This includes autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell therapy for treating degenerative knee osteoarthritis and cartilage damage, aiming to intervene early, prevent progression, relieve pain, and improve quality of life.

Director
Dr. Hsien-Te Chen is the Director of the Orthopedic Department and Spine Center at China Medical University Hospital. He holds multiple leadership roles, including board member of the Taiwan Orthopedic Association and Executive Director of the Taiwan Spine Society. Dr. Chen specializes in spinal surgeries, particularly scoliosis correction, spinal degeneration, trauma, tumors, and minimally invasive spine surgery.
He is also experienced in stem cell therapy and has received the 14th National Innovation Award for his work on a spinal fusion simulation system. Over the past five years, he has published 36 SCI-indexed papers in the field of spine surgery.

Dr. Yi-Ching Feng is a specialist in bone tumor resection, limb-salvage surgery, joint reconstruction, artificial joint replacement, osteotomy, and joint infections. He trained at China Medical University Hospital and completed a research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. An Executive Director of the Taiwan Orthopedic Trauma Society, he is also the Vice Superintendent of Medical Affairs at China Medical University Beigang Hospital, with a strong reputation in bone tumor treatment in Taiwan.

Dr. Chin-Jung Hsu is trained in orthopedics at China Medical University Hospital and specializes in reverse shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, sports injury treatments, and joint surgeries. He is a board member of the Taiwan Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Society and has extensive experience in sports medicine. Dr. Hsu is currently the Director of the Department of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Yung-Cheng Chiu is a board member of the Taiwan Society of Hand Surgery and specializes in hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder surgeries, as well as finger replantation and reconstruction of nerve injuries and limb deformities. He has trained at the Indiana University Upper Limb Center, Dr. Pinal Clinic in Spain, and Shandong Provincial Hospital. Dr. Chiu is a renowned expert in hand surgery and microsurgical limb reconstruction and currently serves as the Director of the Department of Hand Surgery and Microsurgical Limb Reconstruction at Taichung Veterans General Hospital.

Dr. Chih-Hung Hong specializes in minimally invasive anterior approach hip and knee joint replacement surgeries, as well as complex joint revisions. He has trained at the IRCAD for arthroscopic surgery (including shoulder, wrist, hip, and knee) and the Makoplasty Training Center in Dallas for robotic-assisted joint replacement. With extensive experience in joint surgeries, Dr. Hong currently serves as the Director of the Department of Artificial Joints at China Medical University Hospital.

Dr. Chien-Chung Kuo is the President of the Taiwan Pediatric Orthopedic Society and specializes in treating pediatric orthopedic conditions such as cerebral palsy, gait abnormalities, hip dysplasia, and limb deformities. He has trained internationally at institutions like Aichi Children's Hospital, Oxford University, and the University of Washington. Dr. Kuo is also an expert in cerebral palsy motion analysis and ankle replacement surgery. He currently serves as the Director of the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics at China Medical University Hospital.

Dr. Tsung-Li Lin specializes in minimally invasive hip and knee joint replacement, joint revision surgeries, prosthetic infection treatment, and upper and lower limb fracture surgeries. In collaboration with the hospital's 3D printing center, he developed the "computer-aided design of dynamic antibiotic spacers," benefiting many patients with prosthetic joint infections. He currently serves as an attending physician at the Department of Orthopedics and the Neurosurgery Spine Center. Dr. Tseng has received specialized training at top spine medical centers in Taiwan, China, and South Korea.
