Exercise electrocardiogram is a stress test, which is an non-invasive test to evaluate the possibility coronary artery diseases.
The testing exercise gradually increases the exercise load so patients’ heartbeat rate and systolic blood pressure rise.
Although patients suffering from coronary artery diseases may look normal on electrocardiogram at rest, the increase in oxygen demand during exercise could cause mismuch between supply and demand, thus abnormal electrocardiogram happens.
Examination Procedures
- Please wear a sport suit and shoes.
- On the treadmill, gently grab the handrail in front with two hands. After recording the complete ECG and taking blood pressure measurement, the standard exercise electrocardiogram will be activated.
- The machine starts from the first stage and increase speed and slop gradually. The maximum exercise is 7 stages, and each stage lasts for 3 minutes. Record the blood pressure, heartbeat rate and ECG in each stage.
- After the treadmill machine stops, the patient still needs to take blood pressure and ECG records (approximately 5 minutes) before leaving.
- In case of any symptom or sign of risk during the examination, immediate disposition and treatment will be provided.
- After the blood pressure and heartbeat returns to normal state, the patients may go home immediately if they do not experience any discomfort.
