Good blood sugar control can promote health, prevent comorbidities, improve quality of life and increase longevity.

Blood Collection in the Hospital

• Fasting blood sugar level test: Do not eat after midnight before the test, with a small amount of water allowed. Empty your stomach for 8 hours and come to the test room in the morning for blood collection (Do not take drugs or insulin before meals when blood sugar levels are checked).
• Biochemical test (e.g. cholesterol, triglyceride, high and low density cholesterol): Do not eat or drink for 12 hours.
• Blood glucose 2 hours after meals: after having your fasting blood drawn, please take medicine or insulin injections before the meal, remember to take post-meal medicine after eating, and receive a blood test 2 hours later (If you eat breakfast at 7am, please remember to check your blood sugar 2 hours after the meal at 9am).

Checking Your Blood Glucose with a Glucose Meter

• Fasting blood glucose: wake up in the morning with an empty stomach for 8 hours without eating any food, taking any medication or insulin injections (a small amount of water is acceptable).
• Fasting blood glucose before meals: e.g., fasting blood glucose before lunch and fasting blood glucose before dinner when nothing is eaten before any meal and 4 hours have passed since the last meal.
• Blood glucose 2 hours after meals: blood sugar levels 2 hours after the first bite of food (please remember to take the medicine or have insulin injections required).
• When hypoglycemia occurs: if there are symptoms of hypoglycemia or hypoglycemia is suspected, please immediately test your blood sugar levels and deal with it according to the situation.
• If you have any discomfort, please test yourself with a glucose meter to understand your current condition and contact your medical team for discussion.
• All the blood glucose values you have obtained from the test should be recorded in the blood glucose log book and discussed with your medical team.
