Description of Medical Device
The device is the metallic stent made of nickel-titanium alloy wires woven into a mesh, which expands the narrow part of gastrointestinal tract through unfolding force.
Application Schedule
- Patients with malignant gastrointestinal tract obstruction, who are too old for surgery or refusing surgery, or patients who are verified incapable of receiving radical surgery.
- Short-term expanding and treatment for benign esophageal and gastrointestinal tract stricture or fistula.
Possible Side Effects
Metal stents for gastroduodenal obstruction:
- Complications (27%): Stent occlusion (17.2%), stent migration (5.1%), pain (2.5%), biliary problems (ex.jaundice) (1.3%) and etc..
- Severe complications (1.2%): Bleeding and perforation.
Post-Surgery Care Instructions
- Observe after the surgery and drink water in 1 hour. Eat if there is not adverse effect and pay attention to gastrointestinal bleeding or abdominal pain.
- Avoid excess drinking and eating; eat less food at a meal and more meals every day, chew food slowly to help digestion.
- Main caregivers of patients should observe if the patients have signs with tarry stool, bloody stool, abdominal pain, fever, or jaundice. For any question, please consult with your physician or nurses for relevant information.
