Medical Device
Prosthetic Mesh.
Description of the Medical Device
Prosthetic mesh is a mesh substance made of polypropylene material, used for tensionless hernia repair. This material and the surrounding tissues form fibrosis to create a new layer of strong structure.
Use
- Often used for groin or umbilical hernia.
- Might be used for coleoptosis as well.
Possible Side Effects
- Abnormal sensation or sense of pain.
- Infection in the wound.
Post Surgery Care
- Clean the suture wound once a day and put on clean gauze pads.
- Reduce activities that might cause abdominal pressure within 3 months after the procedure, such as lifting heavy objects from squat position, long-term coughing, constipation, smoking, or weight training and workout. Avoid activities mentioned above before the prosthetic mesh and tissues become strong enough. Press the spot when necessary.
- See your physician immediately when fever, swelling and pain on the wound, discharges, or bleeding occur.
