What is serous otitis media?
Serous otitis media is a common disease in preschoolers. It can occur for many reasons. Sometimes it lasts only a few days, but it may last for several years. The main symptoms of serous otitis media are blockage or congestion in the ear and hearing loss.
Usually used in the treatment of serous otitis media is the surgical incision of the tympanic membrane and aspiration of accumulated fluid, while the middle ear ventilation tube can be placed to maintain the pressure on both sides of the middle ear and external ear for a long period of time.
Conditions after surgery
- The patient will not feel the tube.
- The discomfort caused by the symptoms will gradually disappear.
- Hearing loss can be improved immediately.
- The ear may bleed slightly, but it gradually improves.
Notes after surgery
- Stay in bed until you are fully awake.
- Pay attention to safety when getting out of bed.
- Don't let water get into your ears to avoid infection.
- Use eardrops according to doctor's instructions.
What should I pay attention to when I get home?
- Don't let water get into your ears by putting cotton in your ears before bathing or shampooing. After shower, remove it.
- Usually the tube will fall off automatically within 3 to 18 months, and the patient will not feel uncomfortable.
- To understand how to administer the eardrops into the ear, continue to use the eardrops for one week according to the situation after the operation, and extend the use if necessary.
- Seek medical advice when fever, excessive pain or persistent pain, increased secretion, bleeding symptoms, and hearing loss are aggravated.
- Proceed with outpatient follow-up treatment.
