Sedation Examination of the Ear, Nose and Throat 耳鼻喉部鎮靜檢查

Before Examination or Sedation

  • Do you know what kind of medical treatment or examination you will receive? □ Yes    □ No
  • No eating before examination
    1. Adults: solid foods for 8 hours, liquid foods 6 hours, and small amounts of clear liquids 2 hours.
    2. Children: formula milk 6 hours, breast milk 4 hours.
  • If you have any medical history, including drug allergy and asthma, please inform the medical staff.
  • If you have loose teeth, please inform the medical staff. If you have removable dentures, please remove them in advance.
  • During the examination, vital signs will be measured and oxygen will be given if necessary, but if there is any discomfort in the process, please inform the audiologist or medical staff as soon as possible.
  • Where necessary, sedation care will be provided.
  • For children to be examined who need medication for sleep, please note the following:
    1. Minimize sleep the night before and on the checkup day to facilitate the examination.
    2. Parents are advised not to ride a motorcycle with children on it (for safety reasons).
    3. Please bring diapers, wet wipes and other articles to facilitate the examination.

After Examination or Sedation

Within 24 hours after sedation, the sedative effect may still exist. Therefore, it is necessary to be vigilant and not to engage in the following acts.

  • Don't drive a car.
  • Don't make major decisions or sign legal documents.
  • Do not do activities that require skill, concentration, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Alcoholic beverages should be avoided within 24 hours.
  • After medical treatment or examination, if there is any discomfort, the inpatient should inform the medical staff immediately. Patients at home should return to the hospital immediately for examination and treatment.
  • Both inpatient and outpatient patients should be accompanied or driven home by family members or relatives within 12 hours after receiving sedation and analgesic care.
  • Within 24 hours of sedation and analgesic care, sedation effects may persist and the children must be cared for.
  • If a child patient is asleep afterwards, it is best to wake him/her every two hours and ask him/her to respond to you. When sleeping, clothes or quilts should not be allowed to cover the mouth or nose.
  • Do not feed solid food for a while. Let them drink water or beverages first. Make sure they do not vomit before allowing them to eat food.
  • The medicine must be administered on a regular basis in accordance with the physician's instructions.
  • When returning home in the car, they must sit on the child safety seat, and there is someone to take care of them, and pay attention to their breathing.
