Emergency department-self-care instructions for patients with abdominal pain 急診—腹痛病人自我照顧須知

  • When you visit the emergency department for abdominal pain, please pay attention during the emergency observation period:
  • If abdominal pain occurs, please stop eating temporarily, and pay attention to changes in pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • If the abdominal pain improves, the doctor will need to examine your condition before deciding if eating is allowed.
  • Ease back into eating. Please take a light diet first, and pay attention to whether abdominal pain occurs.
  • When you return home, please note:
  • The principle of daily diet should be small and frequent meals and a light diet. You can start with soft or semi-liquid foods and pay attention to appropriate water supplements.
  • In the following cases, please return to the hospital for examination and treatment immediately:
  • Fever, chills.
  • Frequent urination, painful urination, hematuria.
  • Abdominal pain that does not improve, the location of the pain shifted to the right lower abdomen and continuous pain.
  • The color of stool changes to black or red.
  • The skin or eyes turns yellow.
  • The symptoms worsen.
  • Please follow the doctor's instructions to take the medicine and return to the hospital on time for follow-up treatment, or follow up at the outpatient department of gastroenterology.
