Emergency Department-Precautions for patients with chest pain 急診—胸痛病人注意事項

2023/11/20

After careful diagnosis and treatment by the doctor, you can go home and recuperate. The following instructions can help you follow-up care at home.

  • After diagnosis and treatment by a doctor, if your chest pain persists, it may be a heart problem. Please be sure to return to the cardiology clinic for follow-up visits within 3 days.
  • The typical chest pain caused by myocardial hypoxia feels like a large stone pressing on the chest. It may also radiate to the arms or shoulders, mostly concentrated on the left side of the body, but there may be atypical forms of pain.
  • When chest pain occurs, medications can be used as directed by the physician to relieve symptoms. If you use a sublingual lozenge, please measure your blood pressure beforehand. If the systolic blood pressure is less than 90mmHg, do not use it, sit or lie down and put it under your tongue and do not swallow it. It usually feels prickly. This is a normal drug reaction. If the first tablet is not effective, you can take another tablet 5 minutes later and go to the emergency room of the hospital immediately.
  • The sublingual lozenge prescribed by the physician should be placed in a brown vial to avoid light exposure. If the sublingual tablet is not spicy or has been used for more than 6 months, it should be replaced immediately.
  • Please take the medicine regularly according to the doctor's advice and do not adjust the medicine yourself; if you have any symptoms after taking the medicine, please return to the emergency or outpatient clinic for follow-up examination and treatment as soon as possible.

In the following cases, please be escorted by family members or call an ambulance to return to the emergency department as soon as possible

  • Using sublingual lozenges for more than 2 tablets is still ineffective.
  • Increased frequency and severity of chest pain.
  • Chest pain will still occur during rest.
  • Sudden syncope, loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath.
