Instruction for Orthopedic Wound Care 骨科傷口照護注意事項

2024/8/6
  • 8-12 hours after the injury occurs, tissues will continue to swell. Please elevate the injured spot to reduce swelling. Apply ice pad on the injured spot as instructed by the doctor (10-15 minutes each time).
  • Keep the incision dry and do not soak in the water. Use saran wrap and tapes to cover the gauze pads during shower.
  • If the wound gets wet, please go to the orthopedic clinic close to you immediately to change dressing. If the wound is bigger and more complicated, please go back to the hospital as instructed by the doctor.
  • Avoid exposing the wound in the sun, dramatic exercises and sweat.
  • Keep the joint straight if the wound is at the joint to avoid pulling the stitches during activities and cause the wound to tear and bleed.
  • Please apply (take) medicines as instructed by the doctor. Do not apply any ointment not approved by the doctor to prevent wound infection.
  • Avoid irritating foods, such as smoking, alcohol, and chili peppers. Consume high protein and high fiber foods.
  • 3-4 days after the surgery is the peak for infection. If fever, shivering, red and swollen pain in the wound, or oozing in the wound occurs, please go to your doctor immediately.
  • Make appointment with the Cast Room in Orthopedic Outpatient Department for stitches removal as instructed by your doctor. Facial incision usually   takes 5-7 days, while incisions on limbs and body take about 14 days.
