Outpatient treatment
- If you suspect that you are suffering from a mental illness or are already a mental patient, and your condition is relatively stable or you have residual symptoms but do not endanger yourself or others, you may consider going to a psychiatric outpatient clinic for treatment on your own or accompanied by your family. In a psychiatric outpatient clinic, a professional physician can evaluate your condition and provide appropriate treatment recommendations. Treatment may include regular follow-up visits, taking medication on a regular basis, or receiving injections, which are all common ways to manage mental illness.
Emergency treatment
- When psychiatric patients' mood, behavior, interpersonal relationship or social adaptation suddenly change dramatically, and they show violent or self-injury behavior, they must immediately be taken to the emergency room for treatment.
- Emergency patients will be examined, assessed, interviewed, given medication and other treatment, and will be given appropriate referrals according to the patient's condition.
Hospitalization
- Family support is important for the recovery and stability of people with mental illness. A supportive family environment with appropriate and positive emotional expression can help patients reduce stress, increase positive emotions, and provide a sense of security and stability. Family members can help patients establish a regular daily routine, provide emotional support, and try their best to assist or urge patients to take medications on time to reduce the chance of disease recurrence.
Family
- Families must provide a supportive, cathartic, and positive environment for the patient's life, and assist with or urge medication as much as possible to reduce the risk of relapse. The handling principles are as follows:
- Always look on the bright side, and ignore the shortcomings as much as possible.
- Care about the here and now, and let go of past preconceptions.
- Encourage expression of feelings.
- Encourage independence, provide assistance and do not make decisions for others.
Community
- Rehabilitation institution (halfway house)
Some psychiatric patients should be trained to be independent because of their illness or because of family factors. Therefore, patients should be provided with a protective and therapeutic living place for them to recover.
- Sheltered workshop/community rehabilitation center
The purpose of setting up a sheltered workshop for patients is to train their persistence and regularity, with full-time staff as managers.
