Generally, when the legs are brought together, the labia minora will be retracted within the labia majora to protect the urethra and vaginal opening. If the labia minora is abnormally hypertrophic due to congenital hyperplasia or acquired factors, the labia minora may protrudes significantly outside the labia majora when the legs are adducting, which produce vulva friction and subsequent discomfort. In fact, the labia minora injury with following recurrent infections might be induced in daily exercise, walking, wearing tights, riding a bicycle, or long-term sitting.

Surgical approach

• Before surgery, the doctor will evaluate the unilateral or bilateral lesions under considerations of overall function and aesthetics. The hypertrophic and excessively long tissue will be surgically removed and modified. The clitoral area can also be reshaped at the same time if long clitoral hood or frenulum was found. Precautions before surgery

1. Patients with recurrent infections require preventive drug treatment before surgery.
2. Routine Pap smears are recommended.

Postoperative precautions

1. Please take antibiotics directed by your doctor.
2. The wound will bleed easily in three days after the operation, so please rest and avoid moving around, and keep the wound covered with ice for three days. .
3. Less walking around , lifting heavy objects, and straining to defecate in the first week. The swelling will gradually be subsided
4. Avoid strenuous exercise (including sexual activity) for one month.
5. Dressing change: Shower normally, rinse the wound with saline, dry it with sterile gauze, and use medication at the surgical site as directed by the doctor. Cover the underwear with sterile gauze. If there is some fluid , change the gauze frequently.
6. After going to the toilet, rinse the perineum with saline, apply topical medicine to the surgical site as directed by the doctor, dry it with gauze, and then apply ointment.
7. One week after the operation . The stitches will be removed in about 10 to 14 days, and scar silicon gel will be applied depending on the situation.
8. Do not smoke or drink alcohol after surgery , and avoid taking aspirin-containing medicines or foods such as Ganoderma lucidum and ginseng. These may have an effect on coagulation, with may cause bleeding or affect wound healing.
9. After surgery, please eat more fruits and vegetables and drink more water to prevent constipation and reduce excessive abdominal exertion when defecating.
