Exam Time: M D Y ( Day of the Week ) A.M./P.M. H M
- Colonic preparation is the key to the diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic safety of colonoscopy. If the bowel preparation is poor, it will be hard to find the small lesions in your colon. Therefore, please follow the instructions for your bowel prep.
PRE-EXAM FOOD INSTRUCTIONS
- What should I know before taking Klean powders and undergoing colonoscopy?
- Good bowel cleansing is key for high-quality colonoscopy. Inadequate bowel preparation would result in missed precancerous lesions. Therefore, please follow the following instructions for your bowel prep.
- Eat low residue food two days before the exam, including white bread without nuts or seeds, rice porridge, noodles. Do not eat high fiber or protein diet (such as vegetables, fruits, meat, tofu, gluten, milk, and dairy products…etc.). Eat clear liquid diet, such as sports drink, fruit juices without pulp, fruit-flavored beverages, honey, tea, or coffee without milk or cream, one day before undergoing colonoscopy. Dark-colored drinks, such as grapefruit juice, carrot juice, or tomato juice, are prohibited before bowel preparation.
- You can also use a low-residue meal replacement designed for colonoscopy: just consume it the day before the test.
ADMINISTRATION FOR GI Klean
- Please dissolve two packs of the powder in 2000 mL of water.
- If you undergo the colonoscopy in the morning, or anesthesia examination, please drink the laxative at 5 a.m. and finish in two hours. If the exam was performed in the afternoon, please start to drink the laxative at 8 a.m. If you are being sedated or having a general anesthetic while undergoing colonoscopy, you will need fasting for at least 6 hours before the exam and may not drink water or eat any food starting ______A.M. on the day of the exam.
HOW TO FIND OUT IF THE COLON IS CLEANED THOROUGHLY?
- Replenish water to help bowel movement and prevent dehydration. Please drink several times under suggested water amount. Please excrete until the liquid becomes transparent for thorough cleaning. If the liquid is still appears orange-yellow, please continue replenishing water before water deprivation.
PRECAUTIONS
- Please follow the physician instruction to stop taking anticoagulant. Only laxative or completely clear drinks can be taken on the day of exam. Food with low content of fibrous residue is prohibited. Patients can still take high blood pressure medicine and anticonvulsant but it is suggested not to take hypoglycemic drugs.
- Only very few cases will experience nausea, vomiting or abdominal distension, and anal stimulation, after taking the laxative. These are normal temporary phenomena. You may take a rest until the symptoms are alleviated before continue taking the laxatives.
- Diarrhea will start in about 30~60 minutes after taking the medicine and will last for about 2~4 hours. The time for excrement could be delayed due to personal condition or habits of constipation. The patient can walk around, massage the abdomen or rinse the anus with lukewarm water for stimulation, in order to speed up bowel movement and ex excrement.
- Multiple excrements will cause anal discomfort. It is suggested to rinse the anus with water after excrements. Reduce the use of tissue paper.
- Patients of congenital megacolon, ileus, congestive heart failure, ascites, and other diseases may not take this laxative agent and will need to voluntarily notify.
