Purpose

The examination by centesis is conducted under the ultrasound scan, while the patient maintains a prone or supine position, and uses a special needle to cut a small slice of tissue for pathological examination.

Post-Biopsy Instructions

1. The patient shall follow the physician’s order for meals after returning to the ward.
2. After the biopsy, lie flat and pressurize with a sandbag for ______ hours (by physician’s order) to prevent bleeding.
3. During bed rest, do not get out of bed and go to the bathroom. Use a bedpan or urinal instead so as to decrease the likelihood of bleeding from puncture site.
4. In case of wound exudate from the dressing, please inform the medical staff of the ward immediately.
5. In 24 hours after the biopsy, please dampen the gauze and adhesive tape with water and gently remove from the wound.
6. If you experience any discomfort such as dizziness, increased heartbeat, pale face, and ache, please inform the medical staff immediately.
